COVID-19 emergency response
We work together to respond to COVID-19.
COVID-19 is caused by the novel coronavirus, which began in late 2019 in China and quickly spread to the rest of the world. Its impact has created a global health and economic crisis.
Plan International’s response has reached millions of people around the world. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy provided resources for interventions in four countries.
What are we doing?
Project one: May – October 2020
Through funding from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, Plan International supported our offices in Egypt, Laos and the Philippines in implementing acute emergency response activities. This included prioritizing requests from the ministries of health and other relevant government health authorities to assist in preventing infections in health facilities and reducing the risk of widespread community-level transmission. Plan provided critical assistance to stressed public health systems.
Project two: November 2020 – September 2021
Plan International is supporting our office in Peru in implementing activities to help bridge the educational digital divide that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis. This project, funded by the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, ensures children’s right to an education in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic by improving teachers’ e-learning support skills and improving students’ and their families’ knowledge of online child protection issues so that virtual learning is safe and effective, especially for girls.
