  • Technical Areas Covered: Community and Parental Engagement Around Education

In support of improved learning outcomes for primary school students, Tusome Pamoja worked to establish structures that sponsor greater collaboration between households, communities and their school while also strengthening existing structures such as school management and village assembly committees. Plan developed training programs for parents and teachers and utilized social behavior change communication strategies to engage parents and the wider school community. Tusome Pamoja accomplished this through close relationships with the Government of Tanzania, Zanzibar and other stakeholders at the national and local levels.

“When a child is studying while he sees his parent closer, then he is comforted and he is getting hope to say that ‘my parent is here supporting me,’ opposed to when he is just studying alone ... But if you will be supporting him even to challenge him like ‘hey, what is written here? What is the meaning of this story? What does this story teach us?’ That means his behavior and mind will expand because he will see that his father supported him.”
