Shanna Marzilli is the chief marketing officer and chief human resources officer at Plan International USA, an international humanitarian and development organization that partners with adolescent girls and children around the world to overcome oppression and gender inequality, providing the support and resources that are unique to their needs and the needs of their communities, ensuring they achieve their full potential with dignity, opportunity and safety.
In her role, Shanna oversees all individual giving to Plan, which includes nearly $20 million a year from Plan’s sponsorship program, as well as partnerships with Corporations and Foundations. She is responsible for building the Plan brand through marketing, communications, public engagement and advocacy initiatives.
Since joining Plan in 2013, Shanna has managed the execution of a number of projects including the well-known Because I Am A Girl campaign, which raised more than $15 million for girls’ education. In addition, she has led the development and implementation of a global rebranding effort and raised unaided brand awareness by 3%. Each year, Shanna spearheads the U.S. activities around International Day of the Girl, which includes girls and young women taking over the positions of female executives at companies such as Facebook, Google, Creative Artists Agency Foundation, MSNBC and YouTube, among others.
In her role as chief human resources officer, Shanna oversees the organization’s workforce development and talent management efforts. She led the implementation of Plan’s total compensation philosophy, including expanding Plan’s maternity and paternity leave policy, and she is responsible for Plan’s internal diversity and inclusion initiative. She successfully transitioned Plan to a performance management platform that encourages meaningful feedback on a regular basis between managers and staff.
Shanna began her career in health-policy, primarily at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island where she served as the assistant vice president for Corporate Compliance and Ethics, as well as chief marketing officer. In 2012, she was the recipient of the Women to Watch in Health Care award from Providence Business News.
Shanna is a graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island.
