Girls in Zimbabwe struggle to finish school when they have to travel long distances to attend classes. Through GirlEngage, they helped design a dormitory that is specific to their needs.
Youth engagement
We partner with, listen to and engage young people, providing the space for them to lead. Young people play a critical role at all levels of Plan International USA’s work, both in the U.S. and in our program work abroad.
Our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a group with members between the ages of 16 and 22 that advises Plan’s work, including in discussions with the Board of Directors and Executive Team.Young people are critical in our program work aboard. As part of our GirlEngage development approach, we work with girls, young people, families and their communities to identify problems and implement solutions.

We work to strengthen the ability and skills needed for young people to understand and demand their rights in their homes, communities, schools and from their governments. From advocating for gender equality to creating space for young people to speak their truth, we help young people engage in citizenship, express their views and influence decision-makers. To ensure the participation of everyone, we strive to reach the most marginalized and vulnerable groups, including girls, LGBTQIA+ youth, people with disabilities and youth from socially and economically disadvantaged groups.
